Rent a movie, a car or a date but not your best friend!!
FlexPetz is a business coming to the Boston area which exploits dogs to make a sizable profit for the business owners.
The concept is basically “renting” a dog for an hour, day or weekend.
“Members” can join and pick from a selection of dogs of various sizes and shapes for “companionship”. What other lucrative profession does this bring to mind?
The problem is that the dog goes from one person to another. Never making a permanent connection. How confusing is it for a dog to be here one day, there another, barely with a familiar face?
In our opinion, this is an inhumane practice. The goal of every humane society is to place pets in a permanent, stable home where they are considered a valued member of the family. This is an injustice to our four-legged friends. If you agree, join us in the effort to stop Flexpetz.
E-mail or call Rules Committee Chair Rep. Angelo Scaccia urging him to assign “An Act Prohibiting Renting of Pets” to the appropriate committee without delay. Rep.AngeloScaccia@Hou.State.MA.US 617 722-2692.
Triple your impact by forwarding your e-mail to your state representative and senator (find them at www.mass.gov/legis, asking them to join 12 of their colleagues in cosponsoring.
Rep. Paul Frost has filed “An Act Prohibiting the Renting of Pets” (H.D.4864), supported by the MSPCA, HSUS, PETA, and preeminent animal behaviorists Drs. Patricia McConnell and Nicholas Dodman. Animal Control Officers Assoc. of Massachusetts is also preparing an endorsement. Please help to get this important bill passed. We need your help today.
Thank you for your support. |
